“Solar Power For the Long Haul” Editorial in the Sunday Mail

Getting long-term value from solar power generated for home or business needs to be underpinned by expert electrical handy-work, says award-winning contractor Paul Maiolo.

The director of South Australian electrical contractor P-MEC Electrical and its solar sister firm, Solar Power Direct, says the importance of high level workmanship and service can’t be underestimated when it comes to solar.

“With the increased focus on the solar industry and the demise of solar companies, it’s paramount that Solar Power Direct does not compromise on quality of workmanship and service,” he says.

“We must ensure that we offer customers long-term results and a system that will generate savings for the future.”

This emphasis on quality is underlined by P-MEC Electrical winning the 2014 Master Electricians Australian (SA/NT) Excellence Award for Residential Project of the Year.

P-MEC Electrical’s submission to the award included all electrical work completed for two new double storey homes in Vale Park. Paul says with solar being a long-term investment, it’s important to have a system installed that satisfies all necessary electrical laws and Clean Energy Council guidelines to ensure longevity.

“I can’t stress enough that people shopping for solar energy should do their diligence when selecting an installer,” he says. “It’s important to understand the product warranty conditions and solar installation warranty for workmanship and ask for a history of installations completed to date.”

P-MEC Electrical provided a full electrical service to the awarded homes, fitting them with energy-saving options including LED lighting, solar systems, underfloor heating, home entertainment systems and air-conditioning. “It was a privilege to be recognised as one of the best in the business in SA/NT, and I’m excited by the positive impact this will have on our business and the electrical industry as a whole,” Paul says. “Everyone involved at P-MEC Electrical was proud to have been nominated, let alone win.”

Paul established Solar Power Direct in 2011 as the renewable arm to P-MEC Electrical. It specialises in installations of residential and commercial solar systems, maintenance of existing solar systems and providing competitive LED lighting options to solar customers. Installations are undertaken by Paul’s team of master electricians.

Solar Power Direct is a proud member of the Smart Energy Council, working towards a safe climate and a strong renewable economy.
