What happens if my solar system is faulty?

It’s something you certainly don’t want to happen: one day, in the shower, you find there’s no hot water. And then you realise your solar panel system has problems and that it’s faulty. This can cause stress as you imagine the cost and time it might take to fix it.

But don’t despair – it could be an easy and painless fix. In this article we go over your consumer rights and what you should do when you want to repair or replace your solar system.

What are my consumer rights if my solar system is faulty?

When your solar system was installed, you should have received all the proper documentation and paperwork from the retailer. In this documentation, you should have received a warranty. Hopefully, if you do have problems with your solar system, it is still under warranty when the issues occur.

If this is the case, you can contact the retailer who installed the system to come out and take a look at the problem. They should then advise you as to what steps you can take for getting the system replaced or repaired, and they will cover these costs under warranty.

If you are struggling to get in touch with the retailer, you can then reach out to the manufacturer of the system. You should be able to find this contact information on the warranty.

If both of these options don’t work out for you, your next step is to contact the consumer affairs or fair trading government office (depending on the state or territory you live in) and file a complaint with them. They will then take action into getting your issue resolved.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Under the Australian Consumer Law, you have certain rights whenever you buy a service or product and it is important to remember these rights if your solar system isn’t meeting your expectations.

These consumer guarantees don’t have a time limit and will exist no matter whether or not your solar system retailer has given you further warranties for your product or not.

We can organise any replacements you might need for your system, and help you to re-install these. We will do this whether or not your solar system is still under warranty – it doesn’t matter!

What does Solar Power Direct do if you call them to replace or repair a faulty solar system that was installed by another provider?

We are happy to help you out with your faulty solar system, even if it has been installed by another retailer. However, we will need some information to help us do this, including the details of faulty product, any serial numbers and the brand name of the system.

Once we have this information, we will get in touch with the manufacturer to arrange a replacement if your system is still under warranty. Once we have received the replacement, we will contact you to arrange the installation.
